The Red Chronicles
The Red Chronicles is a book that takes place in the future. Mars was colonized and during the process of late terraforming (around the time water begins to build up in great amounts, like large lakes and small seas), when something happens on Earth. It is never stated what happened on Earth, and the begining of the novel sounds like it takes place on Earth (like a post-apocalyptic Earth). It isn't though. After the "Great Disaster" all communications with Earth were silenced. It was reported that all human civilization on Earth had ceased. Humanity was no longer a factor of Earth's history, they had destroyed it somehow. The story follows some sixty years later, after riots and anarchy consume the Martian Colonies and drive its government to collapse. It follows the life of a seventeen year old kid named Aedan, who is what is known as a rouge. A rouge is a person who travels throughout Mars (or the Wastelands, as everyone calls it) looking for nothing in particular; just a wandering soul. He makes a living by bounty hunting, odd jobs, treasure hunting, and espionage. On Mars, there is no civilization as we know it; no currency, no real government, no laws. People barter for food, goods, and especially water. People live in villages or small cities with the technology of around the early 1900's (with some more modern innovations mind you, like weak computers and solar electricity). Each village/city (or State, as they are called) has their own form of semi-governmental structure and laws. The novel will cover Aedan's life from his childhood to his death (I estimate around 40 years or so). Over this peroid of time he will deal with rivals, friends, power-hungry corporations, power-mad dictators, an insane cult, and the struggle to find out the secret history of his home world.
